Rough gains for turbocharged petrol engines on 98 RON with a healthy engine, based on published tuner figures. Naturally aspirated engines gain much less, and diesels gain mostly torque. Your car gets a real number after a health check.

- Know the limit.You generally need a licence once you deal in four or more cars a year.
- Sort your premises.A site you can lawfully trade from, with a planning permit or a letter from council.
- Apply and pay.$2,965.20 covers the application and first year's licence (1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027).
- Pass the interview.A phone interview on statutory warranties, cooling-off periods and the Motor Car Traders Act.
